Fine Wine Imports

focused exclusively on Turkish Wine

Åžarap = Sharap = Wine

Our name, Sharap Imports LLC, comes from the Turkish word for wine: Åžarap, transliterated into English as Sharap.

A Taste of History in Every Drop

The story of Turkish wine is a modern story, inextricably tied to 7000 years of human history. Countless civilizations have inhabited the land known today as Turkey, comprised of Thrace in Europe and Anatolia in Asia. From the Hittites to the Phrygians, from the Ancient Greeks and Romans, to the Ottoman Turks, Greeks, Jews and Armenians, to today's modern day Turks, wine has continuously poured from this rich terroir.

A Winemaking Frontier

Turkiye Vacation 2022 (110).jpg

Any historic tradition has ebbs and flows. Turkish wine is no exception. While turmoil of the 20th century led to a vinicultural abatement, the 21st century has witnessed an inspirational rejuvenation. Over the last 30 years, a new generation of Turkish winemakers has emerged with a passion for fine wine, a respect for those who came before them, a dedication to world class winemaking techniques, and a uniquely Turkish vigor focused on reestablishing and reimagining a great tradition. As stewards of their storied land, today's Turkish winemakers have created a truly exciting frontier in wine.

A Turkish Texan Tradition Continued

Sharap Imports LLC - Fine Turkish Wine, is a family business, and an American story rooted in Turkish history. My name is Robert Åžükrü Ä°çsezen. My wife and I own this business. My friends call me "Rob" and my dad lovingly called me "Åžükrü Bey." His name was Samim Hüseyin Ä°çsezen. He was born in Ä°zmir in 1926 and was one of the first Turks to settle in Texas, where he called Houston his home for over 50 years. A lover of wine for all of his long life, he attributed much of his longevity to the community and comradery fostered over a good glass of wine. We carry his legacy in every wine we choose, with pride and with love.
